Baby Hums, 1-Week Old

Here's a photo taken last weekend of the baby hummingbirds. They hatched one week ago last weekend (March 31-April 1). Momma must be feeding them steak and potatoes, because they've really grown. They fill out the nest now. They're getting fuzzier, and I can see the feather "buds" beneath their skin. They're beaks are also getting longer. But they still look, how shall we say, rather "reptilian."

They do still look strange. LOL How big are they? Pretty small since their parents are so small? It is hard to tell by the pict, which is really good. ~Poi Mom Jane

When they first hatched, they were about the size of large, plump raisons (their eggs were the same size as Jelly Bellies). If you scroll down and look at the March 26 photo, you can see that there was plenty of room in the nest. Now, they fill out the nest (which has an opening of about an inch and a half). On the Web cam, we can see them fidgeting and pushing against the sides of the nest, which is stretchy.
